Family- and Sensory-Friendly Community Event to Follow in October
SAN DIEGO; Sept. 3, 2024 – Applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy provider ABS Kids today announced the opening of a new San Diego care center in the Mira Mesa neighborhood at 9245 Activity Rd. #6. This is the sixth therapy center the company has built to create access to autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnosis and care services for children and families in Southern California.
In a 2023 report, the CDC revealed findings that the percentage of children identified with ASD is higher in California compared to other sites where the CDC tracks ASD for both 4-year-old and 8-year-old children. The latest statistics indicate 4.5% of 8-year-olds in California were identified with ASD, with the overall national average being 2.8% where the CDC tracked. For 4-year-olds, California had a 4.6% diagnosis rate, with the national average at 2.2%.
“The reality in our region is that children here are in need of proven, effective autism therapy services,” said ABS Kids California Regional Vice President Francisco Chavez, MA, BCBA. “ABS Kids is committed to continued growth so that we can provide access to the families who need us most. It’s especially exciting to open this new Mira Mesa center to coincide with the start of the school year, as our treatment programs include targeted support for socialization skills.”
The new Mira Mesa center offers:
- Group opportunities for learning and socialization
- Tailored programming for children with ASD
- Caring and attentive oversight and supervision
- Gross motor skills encouraged through play
- Distraction-free spaces for meals and personal recharging
- Spaces for learning, reading and movement
On Oct. 19, ABS Kids will host a Halloween Fall Event from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the new Mira Mesa location. The event will include family- and sensory-friendly activities.
ABS Kids also supports several autism-related events in the greater San Diego area and is proud of its partnership with Autism Society San Diego, which ABS Kids sponsors throughout the year. Most recently, they partnered for the Splash for Cash fundraiser in May to raise money for the Autism Society’s aquatics programs.
