CONCORD, N.C.; Nov. 30, 2023 — ABS Kids, a leading provider of services to children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), announced a new center in Concord, North Carolina (located at 1040 Copperfield Blvd. NE). The center is now open to serve children and families in the area with autism diagnosis services and personalized applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy for children with ASD.

The prevalence of ASD diagnoses in children in North Carolina illustrates the need for these kinds of services in the state. A study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that the rate of 8-year-olds in North Carolina with ASD was significantly higher than the national average. ABS Kids provides early development diagnosis services, with relatively short wait times, for children 8 and younger.

“We understand the need for autism spectrum disorder services in the Concord area, and the entire state. That is why ABS Kids has made it a priority to put our centers here, where the need for access to care is high,” said ABS Kids North Carolina Regional Vice President Allyssa Leary. “This state-of-the-art center was designed to provide the Concord community with needed personalized therapy — and diagnosis — in a safe and structured environment. It offers unique and critical development opportunities for children with ASD in this area.”

Beyond therapy centers, ABS Kids advocates for the greater autism community, which includes in-home therapy options and organizing group experiences for children with ASD and their families. ABS Kids regularly hosts sensory-friendly and structured playtime events and partners with local organizations to further advocate for local autism communities. In Concord, ABS Kids is hosting a Sensory-Friendly Winter Wonderland public event on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Throughout North Carolina, ABS Kids partners with the Marbles Kids Museum in Raleigh to host a free monthly, sensory-friendly playtime event, and hosts a playtime each year at the NC State Fair. ABS Kids also sponsors a sensory-friendly day during a Winston-Salem Dash game.

In addition to Concord, ABS Kids also offers support across North Carolina, with therapy center locations open in Raleigh, Winston-Salem, Charlotte, Greensboro and Gastonia.
