Hispanic Heritage Month, observed from September 15 to October 15, honors the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. At ABS Kids, we are celebrating by sharing the stories of team members whose heritage shapes the care they bring to children and families every day.

This year, we are proud to feature Dani D., a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) at ABS Kids.

Honoring Sacrifice Through Opportunity

For Dani, heritage is personal. It is rooted in family, gratitude, and purpose.

“To me, Hispanic heritage means taking advantage of the opportunities that have been made possible through my parents’ sacrifices,” Dani said. “As a first-generation Mexican American, I recognize the opportunities and resources available to me, including the ability to further my education and become a BCBA.”

Dani sees her career as more than a job. “I see my education and career as a way to honor my parents’ sacrifices while giving back to and supporting my local community.”

That commitment to community is at the heart of ABA therapy at ABS Kids. As a BCBA in California, Dani designs and oversees individualized treatment plans that help children with autism build communication, social, and daily living skills.

The Woman Who Shaped Her

When asked who shaped her most, Dani didn’t hesitate.

“My mother has shaped who I am today. She is kind, hilarious, and intelligent, and she uses these qualities to make a difference in our everyday lives,” she said. “Her personality, strength, and compassion have influenced the person I have become and continue to inspire me every day.”

Those same qualities, kindness, strength, and compassion, are what families feel when they work with Dani in our ABA therapy centers.

What Hispanic Heritage Month Means

Dani hopes the month brings deeper understanding of the journeys behind many Hispanic families.

“I wish more people understood the sacrifices that many Hispanic families make to create better opportunities for their children and loved ones,” she said. “Leaving behind familiar places, communities, and opportunities can be a difficult decision, but it is often driven by hope, love, and the desire to build a brighter future for the next generation.”

She added, “I am grateful for the sacrifices made by those before me and the opportunities they helped create.”

Why Representation Matters in Autism Services

Families come to ABS Kids from many cultures, languages, and backgrounds. Clinicians like Dani, who understand the value of family, sacrifice, and community, help create care that feels personal and respectful. When families see their values reflected in their child’s care team, trust grows, and so does progress.

Celebrating Our Team

Thank you, Dani, for sharing your story and for the care you give our families. This Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate you and every team member whose heritage strengthens our work.
