Now that kids are back to school in the Queen City, it’s a great opportunity to enact inclusive classrooms this year. Macy Vanderberg, ABS Kids Director of Clinical Operations in North Carolina, said it’s about action for children with autism.
“We’re past awareness. Now it’s about making their world part of ours,” shared Macy.
If your child asks why a classmate has a helper or IEP, Macy added to be honest about the differences they may see in others. She said encouraging your child to ask a classmate to sit with them or do a classroom activity are simple, yet effective, ways to truly foster inclusivity.
“Autism isn’t something to fix—it’s a different way to experience the world,” says Macy. “We’re here to help kids thrive just the way they are.”
ABS Kids provides autism diagnosis and ABA therapy in Charlotte and surrounding areas, including Concord, Fort Mill, Gastonia, Huntersville, Rock Hill, and Union County.
